Make Managers Accountable for Employee Retention
 
 

Recent research supports what many of us have suspected all along, that managers need to take accountability for employee retention. The report, What to Do Before the Well Runs Dry: Managing Scarce Skills states that while few firms actually hold managers accountable, those that do, were the least likely to report retention problems. Too often managers tend to think of the issue as an HR problem. Change your performance contracts, recognition structure and compensation models to support this accountability. The results will reflect this increased attention to issues that lead to employee turnover.
